In case anyone's checking, I'm back.
First of all, I didn't realize how long it had been since I've written for this blog. In that context, let me invite your attention to a couple of things.
BushmanBooks.blogspot.com will take you to site where you'll see some blog entries, but also it's a a jumping off point to see my books. I have three books on Amazon covering diverse subjects. One is a book on mobile home investment, another's a compilation of columns I've been writing for Scottsdale Health magazine (yes, that's in Arizona), and the third's a mystery novel. I won't pollute this blog with titles and discussions about the books, but if you're interested please go to the above site.
I've also edited out "master" site for our various endeavors and it's available at BushmanEnterprises.blogspot.com.
Finally, and more in the realm of this blog's subject matter. I've been doing my own radio show. I did one for over a year at blogtalkradio.com, and now have been doing a show for a shorter time at http://GoingBeyondRadio.com. The podcasts of past shows are available for your masochistic listening and we air the show live on Wednesdays at 9PM Eastern, 6PM Pacific. The exception is the 3rd Wednesday when we're dark (I go to a book club). If you have Stitcher on your smart phone or computer, do a search under Bushman.
The show consists of two parts. In the first half, I discuss the headlines (hopefully with humor) and talk about politics, economics and news. In the second half, I interview a guest. Next week (8/28) I'll be speaking with three co-authors of one book, which involves the first white woman who was a member of an all African-American gang in Los Angeles. She's now in hiding, but she'll be joining the conversation from where Dick Cheney used to live, i.e., an "undisclosed location."
It's really amazing what's been happening in the radio world since my last posting.
Sirius Radio (Sirius/XM as I think they're still referring to it) is dead, but they've yet to hold the funeral. When Sirius hired Howard Stern for a gazillion dollars, everyone talked about how this was going to put satellite radio on the map. Ditto when Dr. Laura went from syndicated AM talk radio to Sirius.
It may be that the two of them (and the pace of smart-phone adoption) may be the only things allowing satellite radio to survive.
A number of years ago, a friend of mine said he thought the life of satellite radio would be short, because he and everyone else could listen to music of their choice on their I-Pods and other MP3 devices. I thought he was wrong because I still liked listening to talk radio and there were things on Sirius I wanted to hear.
That was before widespread use of Smart Phones.
Now, I can hear podcasts all day (through, e.g., the free app Stitcher), and live radio through Tune In, from virtually anywhere in the world. Yes, Jay Thomas would be fun to hear on Sirius, but I can listen to Thom Hartmann, all of TWIT's (Leo LaPorte's network) programs and the full output of the network I'm affiliated with.
Who needs satellite?
In another area, It's not yet available for the Android phones, but you can get Reciva's app on an I-Phone if you have one. Like Tune In, that allows you to hear live radio from all over the world. One of our earlier posts covered Reciva, and because of the availability of other programming, I haven't heard them lately, but I imagine that if you have an Android, you could probably use the phone's browser to get the programming available there.
Thanks for tuning in here and I hope you visit some of our other sites. Questions and comments will reach me best at jbushman@gmail.com. Ciao.
