The Chairs
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is attempting to bolster the AM radio band by making the stations on that band less prone to interference. I could be wrong, but this seems - as the title of this post suggests - that this is (as the old expression says) like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
AM's obituary may be premature, but about 4% of those under age 21 listen to it and those over that age listen to AM radio in only slightly larger numbers. The reasons are obvious.
FM has a fairly wide variety of programming and music sounds better on FM. Also, younger people tend not to listen to the fare that plays on AM - talk shows. There's still some interest in sports on AM, but that's also available from other sources: satellite, the Internet, et al (though much on the Internet comes from radio stations including those on the AM band).
Our Show
We'll be back on this Wednesday and next. Tomorrow's guest is author Larry Hancock and he'll be talking about his new book relating to American shadow warfare. We'll also discuss his visit to Dallas to observe the 50th anniversary of the killing of our 35th president. You can tune in at http://GoingBeyondRadio.com
The following week, we'll have someone who isn't nearly as well-known, my friend Steve Lyttleton, to discuss civility among those who differ politically. Since we do, you can tune in to see how well that works out.
Books
On our companion blog, http://BushmanBooks.blogspot.com some of the material here is repeated, but much that's there isn't here. For that reason, I'd like to invite your attention to that space. We often have trivia questions there, along with book reviews and - of course - a path to my own books. Speaking of self-promotion.....
Amazon.com
Since we're in the holiday season (Thanksgiving's past, Hannukah is in session and Christmas and Kwanzaa are approaching), I wanted to mention that if you wish to order something from Amazon or explore their site, you'd be doing our radio program a great favor, by going to their site through our site, http://BushmanBooks.blogspot.com and clicking anywhere on their banner. It won't cost you anything, but they'll send us a few cents from your order.
Exit
That's it for now. I'll see you on the radio.
